Diddy Kong Racing is a racing game developed by Rare for the Nintendo 64 game console in which the player can take control of various characters from Rare games. It is considered one of the best racing games for the N64. According to the 1999 Guinness Book of Records , the game received 800,000 pre-orders in the two weeks leading up to Christmas 1997.
description
For a long time nothing was known about the development of the game and it was rumored that Nintendo kept the development a secret because Diddy Kong Racing was obviously a number better than Mario Kart 64 and they wanted to avoid hesitant customers from giving up Mario Kart 64 and then could turn to Diddy Kong Racing . Only when the release of Rares Jump 'n' Run Banjo-Kazooie had to be postponed, Nintendo announced that it would release the almost finished Diddy Kong Racing as a replacement a few weeks later.
The special thing about the game is the adventure mode, in which you, as a single player, have to unlock all routes, defeat the bosses and collect silver coins during the race. The races will be held with cars, hovercrafts and airplanes:
- Well-known figures among the drivers
- Conker ( Conker's Bad Fur Day , Conker's Pocket Tales )
- Banjo ( Banjo-Kazooie , Banjo-Tooie )
- Tiptup (Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie)
- Diddy Kong ( Donkey Kong games) - although its appearance has been changed slightly compared to the Donkey Kong games.
- Krunch ( Kremling from the Donkey Kong games)
Note: All characters in this game (except Diddy Kong ) first appeared in this game.
successor
Two successors to Diddy Kong Racing were originally planned: Diddy Kong Pilot for the Game Boy Advance and Donkey Kong Racing for the GameCube . However, when the developer Rare was bought by Microsoft , the rights to the Donkey Kong series could no longer be used by them. As a result, work on Donkey Kong Racing was stopped. Diddy Kong Pilot for the Game Boy Advance was developed further, but without the Kong characters, which were replaced by characters from Banjo-Kazooie . The game was renamed Banjo Pilot and was released in early 2005, but received only average ratings. At the beginning of 2008, a new racing game with characters from the Donkey Kong series, Donkey Kong Jet Race , was released, but it had been developed by a completely different studio and was largely rated negatively by the trade press.
