Donus
Donus or Domnus († April 11, 678 ), son of the Roman Mauricius, was bishop of Rome and thus Pope from November 2, 676 until his death .
Little is known about Donus' actions as Pope. According to Liber Pontificalis , he had St. Peter's Square paved with white marble . He also had various well-known churches and chapels renovated. A schism ended under Donus , which began several years earlier as a result of the Archdiocese of Ravenna's efforts for independence . It is also said that during his pontificate a group of Syrian monks were exposed who were staying in a monastery near Rome without permission . Donus chased them away and handed the monastery over to the locals.
After a term of one year, five months and ten days, Donus died and was buried in St. Peter's Basilica . However, a mosaic that was installed in a church near the Roman Forum after his death was destroyed.
