Doom (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Doom is an English crust punk band from Birmingham , which was / is one of the most influential crust bands in the 1980s and which influenced many thrash metal bands of the time.

Story up to the first resolution

The band formed as The Subverters, but quickly renamed itself to Doom after changing the drummer. At first they played with a kind of Oi! a few concerts before they parted ways with their drummer, who then switched to Napalm Death , in order to allow more Discharge- influenced punk to flow into the music . The band later became known for this mixture of Thrash and Punk. After the line-up was replenished, the actual band was formed in 1987. The band took the first three tracks in August 1987 while recording a sampler for Peaceville Records , on which two of the tracks were later released. After this release, the band was asked by Peaceville Records if they wanted to release an LP on the label. Doom agreed, but first released a demo MC, which they sold at concerts themselves, before recording their debut War Crimes (Inhuman Beings) for Peaceville Records . At the same time they played many concerts in Great Britain .

At the end of 1988 the guitarist left the band for personal reasons, but still played during the recordings for the split LP with the Swedes from No Security . During these recordings, the EP Police Bastard was created , which to this day is the second best-selling crust release of all time with more than 15,000 copies sold (behind the Fuck Nazi Sympathy EP by Aus-Rotten ) and its cover (a Bobby with Swastika on the helmet) is a popular motif in the crust scene to this day. After these releases, the band played a tour across Europe. In August 1990 the band split up because a good replacement for the guitar could never be found. The singer then founded the band Police Bastard , while the drummer first played in Extreme Noise Terror and later in DIRT .

Reunion

In 1992 the band found their last line-up, including the guitarist who had left, and played a tour of Japan before they recorded a new LP. Shortly thereafter, however, there were new line-up changes, where a new singer and a new bass player were found. Several split releases followed, including Extinction of Mankind and the EP Hail to Sweden . The EP Monarchy Zoo was recorded during a tour of Scandinavia . After a few more releases, the band finally broke up in 2001.

In 2005, former members came together again for a tour of England to keep the last official singer Wayne Southworth, who died in March of that year, a memento.

In 2010 the band announced another comeback. Since then they have been playing live again and released the album Corrupt Fucking System on December 25, 2013 .

Black Cloud Records

The band's own label has existed since 2011 and has so far released the US Tour 7 ”EP and the album Corrupt Fucking System .
