Grässlin Collection

The Grässlin Collection is an art collection brought together by Dieter and Anna Grässlin from Sankt Georgen in the Black Forest and their children Bärbel , Thomas, Sabine and Karola . The private collection includes works of contemporary art .

The origin of the collection goes back to the 1970s, when the Grässlin parents began to collect works from German Informel . Her children started collecting artist positions in the 1980s from 1981. Her focus was on the art of the immediate present. The 1980s art that they chose was by no means pleasing and controversial. Art space Grässlin

The art space Grässlin, which was completed in June 2006, was designed by the Cologne architect Lukas Baumewerd. In the exhibition space as well as in the external ROOMS FOR KUNST, artistic positions from the collection are presented at regular intervals. The concept of the collection presentation relies on networking with the local urban structure - the new building Kunstraum Grässlin is accompanied by the ROOMS FOR KUNST project, which has been running since 1995 and uses empty shops and former retail stores as exhibition spaces.

Spaces for art

In St. Georgen vacant retail spaces are used for temporary use with art. The concept “Rooms for Art” has existed since 1995. In 2008, Thomas Grässlin, partner in the Grässlin Collection, expanded the project under the name “Rooms for Art and Scholz” to various locations in Stuttgart.

Awards

In 2010, the Grässlin family was awarded the ART COLOGNE Prize for their outstanding contribution to the mediation of modern art . The prize was donated by the Federal Association of German Galleries and Editions together with koelnmesse and has been awarded annually since 1988 on the occasion of Art Cologne .
