Michael Beutler
Michael Beutler (* 1976 in Oldenburg ) is a German sculptor and installation artist .
life and work
Beutler studied from 1997 to 2003 at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main with Thomas Bayrle and from 2000 to 2001 at the Glasgow School of Art (Master of Fine Arts Department).
His works move in the fields of sculpture , room installation and architecture . Beutler “deals with architectural structures, with spaces and the possibilities of transforming them. He uses simple, mechanical methods that are understandable for everyone. ”Much of his work is about“ logical, economic processes. ”He creates“ singular proposals, models, prototypes that will not go into series production because they are basically based on one based on a different structure. "
Installation "Portikus Castle" |
---|
The Museum of Modern Art (MMK) in Frankfurt am Main owns Beutler's sculpture outdoor-yellow from 2004, which was last shown at the joint exhibition of the MMK Museum from 1991 to 2011. 20 years present was shown.
For the Portikus in Frankfurt am Main, Beutler built a walk-in installation in September 2007 made of curved screed grids , which were covered with transparent flower paper in 15 different colors and stacked on top of each other to form columns. Cracks and holes in the colored paper and the sunlight shining through made the “building under construction” shine like a cathedral.
Beutler's installation of a 16 meter-high pagoda made of aluminum at the Lufthansa Aviation Center was awarded the "2008 mfi Prize Art in construction excellent." The pagoda consists of nine different huts stacked on top of each other - with their metallic sheen they refer to different cultures and address wanderlust and wanderlust.
In 2010, Beutler presented his installation Carpet in the Frankfurt Atelierhaus basis together with five other former students from the Städelschule . The carpet, woven from scrap materials, winds its way through several rooms and doors. The weaving machine that produces the carpet was in another exhibition of the artist in Milan in February / March 2010 .
Beutler lives and works in Berlin .
