history
Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Germany emerged from mfi management für immobilien AG. This was founded in 1987 by R. Roger Weiss in Essen. The company's focus was initially on the development of commercial buildings, specialist markets and industrial parks. Mfi opened its first shopping center in 1995 with the Thuringia Shopping Park in Erfurt. In the years that followed, Weiss expanded the company into the second largest shopping center developer in Germany. Between 2012 and 2014 the international Unibail-Rodamco Group took over the majority of shares in mfi AG in several steps. The Canadian pension fund Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) has been involved in the company in the form of a joint venture since May 2015 . In August 2015 mfi AG renamed Unibail-Rodamco Germany and relocated the company headquarters to Düsseldorf. In 2018, Unibail-Rodamco bought the Australian company Westfield and has since been called Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield .
