The Riem Arcaden are the third largest shopping center in Munich after the Olympia shopping center and the Neuperlach shopping center . They were built according to a design by Allmann Sattler Wappner in the Messestadt Riem district on Willy-Brandt-Platz and opened in 2004.
The well-known large chain stores are represented in around 120 specialist stores on three floors and 46,500 m² of retail space.
On the upper floor there are a few cafes surrounded by shops such as Hugendubel , Depot , Müller and Zara , some of which extend down to the ground floor. In the middle part of the ground floor there are some restaurant chains such as Nordsee and McDonald’s , but also normal restaurants . In addition to many smaller shops, there are also branches of Saturn , Fielmann , Edeka (with a postal agency ) and C&A on the lower floor .
The Riem Arcaden also includes a multi-storey car park with 2,600 parking spaces, 30,000 m² of office space, 62 apartments and a Novotel hotel with around 250 rooms.
The plans for an originally intended multiplex cinema center with 3,000 seats were discarded. In the area previously reserved for this purpose at the western end of Willy-Brandt-Platz, additional retail space was built instead, including a new Aldi and another hotel from the Motel One chain on the upper floors .
The Riem Arcaden also has the special feature that in the Messestadt Riem district, which has been newly built since 1999, no shops or supermarkets have been built or planned outside the shopping center. In addition to its regional importance as a large shopping center, the Riem Arcaden also plays the role of daily local supplier for an entire district.
The Riem Arcaden were expanded from 2016 to 2018.
