Meuser
Meuser (* 1947 in Essen ), who keeps his real family name strictly secret (his first name is Nikolaus ), is a German sculptor and object artist .
life and work
Meuser grew up in Essen, where his father worked as an engineer in the steel industry. From 1968 to 1976 Meuser studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with Joseph Beuys and Erwin Heerich and also took courses in philosophy and art history . In 1978 the gallery Arno Kohnen , Düsseldorf , dedicated his first solo exhibition and in 1991 he had an exhibition in the Kunsthalle Zürich . From 1992 to 2015 he held a professorship at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and in 1992 took part in documenta IX in Kassel with some works . Meuser now lives in Düsseldorf.
He processes his sculptures made from found objects into material assemblages that range between constructivism , concrete art , abstract painting and minimal art . In 1985 he received the Bremen Art Prize ; the Kulturkreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft honored his work with their ars viva 1991/92 sponsorship award .
On May 26, 2018, his work Porscheplatz was unveiled in his hometown Essen in the presence of the artist . The location is the Glückauf Park between Rüttenscheider Straße and Alfredstraße, diagonally opposite the Folkwang Museum and from there visible and accessible across Alfredstraße. According to the artist, the work name is reminiscent of the place where the fair - u. a. with ship swings - took place.
