Christian Philipp Müller (born November 2, 1957 in Biel , town of Oftringen (AG)) is a Swiss conceptual artist , photographer and sculptor .

After training as a typesetter , book designer and typographer , Müller attended the F + F School for Experimental Design in Zurich from 1982 to 1984 , where “performance-like body actions played an important role”. Müller moved to the Düsseldorf Art Academy until 1988 , where he was initially a guest student with Jürgen Partenheimer and then studied in Fritz Schwegler's class . In 1985 he became assistant to Kasper König , who held a chair for “Art in Public Spaces” in Düsseldorf. In 1987 he took over the typographic design of the appearance of the King's exhibition “ Sculpture.Projects Münster”.

In 1993 Müller represented Austria together with Gerwald Rockenschaub and Andrea Fraser at the Biennale di Venezia and, based on a recommendation by Hans Haacke, received a visiting professorship for sculpture at the Cooper Union in New York in 1994 . In 1997 he took part in Documenta X , Kassel, where he remembered the earlier Documenta works by Joseph Beuys “7000 Eichen” and Walter de MariaVertical Earth Kilometer ” with a reflection on art in public space .

In 2011, Müller was appointed rector of the Kunsthochschule Kassel as the successor to Karin Stempel . In 2013 he took part in documenta 13. In 2016 he received the Prix ​​Meret Oppenheim .
