Dora Bouchoucha Fourati ( Arabic درة بوشوشة, DMG Durra Būšūša ; born October 11, 1957 in Manouba ) is a Tunisian film producer .

Life

Bouchoucha grew up in a middle-class family in Manouba . Her father was the headmaster of a hospital, her mother ran an orphanage, with which she often came into contact with poverty and tragic fate as a child. She was one of the few girls at the renowned college for boys, Collège Sadiki in Tunis. As a teenager she volunteered at the Carthage Film Festival . She studied English and started translating English subtitles for films.

In the mid-1990s she started working as a producer. She came into contact with the film producer Ahmed Attia , who inspired her to film production. In 1995 she founded her own production company Nomadis Images . As a producer she worked closely with directors, is also involved in the camera, costumes and editing. In 1997 she founded the script workshop Sud Ecriture, in which over 200 people have participated since then.

Her greatest success so far was the film Hedi's Wedding , which was shown in competition at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival and was awarded two prizes, for best debut film and the festival's actor's award. The following year, at the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival , she was invited to the competition jury.

Invitations to other commissions followed. It is part of the Tunisian Commission for Individual Freedoms and Equality ( Commission des libertés individes et de l'égalité ), which the Tunisian President Béji Caïd Essebsi set up in 2017 to approve possible legislative reforms for more human rights in accordance with the new constitution of the Republic of Tunisia of 2014 examine. In 2018 she was invited to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
