The small town of Dordrecht in the municipality of Emalahleni , Chris Hani District , Eastern Cape Province in South Africa is located 70 kilometers north of Queenstown at an altitude of 1,620 meters above sea level. In 2011 it had 2,023 inhabitants. Including the western township of Tjoksville, the city has 10,261 inhabitants. Dordrecht lies in the Storm Mountains .
In 1856 the Dutch Reformed Church bought a farm here to build a church. After its completion, the city developed around this church building. It was named after the Dutch city of Dordrecht , where the historic Dordrecht Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church took place in 1618.
Economically, the city lives from the surrounding sheep farms and to a lesser extent from tourism. The place is on the trunk road R56 , which runs in an east-west direction and connects Molteno and Elliot , and has a train station on the Sterkstroom - Maclear route , which is operated by freight.
