Architecture and history
The church nave, built from rubble stones on a rectangular floor plan, dates back to the Romanesque period and its western parts probably date back to the 12th century. In this part of the ship there are bricked-up openings of former windows and portals. At the end of the 17th century and in 1867 the ship was expanded to the east. The apse was created during the last expansion . Small columns are attached to the portal on the south side of the ship.
The current neo-Romanesque tower to the west of the nave was added in 1894 based on a design by Keller from Neuhaldensleben . It has a high octagonal tip. There are stairwells to the side, which are covered by octagonal tent roofs .
The inside of the church with its horseshoe gallery is spanned by a flat wooden coffered ceiling. Most of the furnishings come from the renovation in 1867, as indicated by an inscription in the apse of the apse. This is also the case with the neo-Gothic octagonal baptismal font, the base of which is of older origin. The wooden polygonal pulpit of the church is classicist , with plaster figures depicting James the Elder, Paul, John and Peter probably added later. The organ was built in 1861 by master organ builder August Troch from Neuhaldensleben in a round arch style. The basement of the tower has a three- bay groined vault . A crucifix from 1670 belongs to the church, but it was deposited.
The painting in partly expressionistic and partly figurative style was carried out in 1923 by the artists Lothar Mannewitz and J. Kelle . New Testament themes were presented in the basement of the tower. On the north side the birth of Jesus, the Mount of Olives and the salvation of Peter are shown. The empty grave of Jesus, Ascension and Pentecost are themed on the southern side. The paintings in the apse and nave represent ornaments.
In the area around the church there are several classical grave steles from the first half of the 19th century. The symbols of virtue in relief are remarkable.
