Flessau village church

The Protestant village church Flessau is a Romanesque stone church in the Flessau district of Osterburg (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt . It belongs to the parish of Bismark in the Stendal parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

History and architecture

The Flessau village church is a stately, carefully executed late Romanesque field stone building, which consists of a high west transverse tower the width of a ship, the hall and a retracted rectangular choir and was consecrated in 1230. Restorations were carried out in 1866 and 1958. The consecration to St. Peter was carried out by Bishop Wilhelm von Havelberg .

The Romanesque south portal is walled up and the windows were later enlarged, only the priest's gate with the cross symbol in the lintel and the eastern choir window are preserved in their original form ; the west portal dates from 1866.

The nave has a flat roof , the chancel with a brushed ribbed vault, probably from the 15th century. The keystone of the choir vault shows a representation of Our Lady , the triumphal arch is decorated with powerful Romanesque fighters .

Furnishing

The main part of the furnishings is an aedicle-shaped baroque altarpiece from around 1730. It has a blown gable with a halo and lateral banded acanthus cheeks with flame vases. The crucifixion painting is from 1927.

The wooden pulpit from 1663 is painted in the panels with the representations of the Evangelists, Moses and the Trinity . The wooden patronage stalls with the arms of the von Bartensleben family were created in 1652. Four carved figures in soft style are probably the remains of a retable from the first quarter of the 15th century and show the coronation of Mary and two apostles.

Three pastor tombstones were set for Heinrich Julius Parnemann († 1669), Jordan Sambtleben († 1723) and Johann Christoph Perlberg († 1783). The beautiful bronze bell was cast in 1675 by the local bell caster Joachim Kraberg, who also supplied other places in the Altmark with his bells. Two gilded silver goblets date from 1676 and the 16th century. The late Gothic churchyard portal made of brick masonry has a passage and a pedestrian gate.
