Gernewitz village church

The village church of Gernewitz is in the Gernewitz district of the town of Stadtroda in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish in Stadtroda Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The hall church is located in the village on a hill and can be seen from afar.

History and equipment

In the 15th century the branch church was connected to Stadtroda. In 1789/90 the current church was built on the place of the previous one. It has a mansard roof and a roof tower .

In the choir there is a pulpit altar from the time it was built. As Taufgestell the almost life-size served baptismal which is now mounted as a floating angel. Three-sided galleries characterize the interior. The parapet was painted with Christian symbols in 1938 as part of a renovation .

The organ was created by Christian Friedrich Poppe the Elder. Ä. The ceiling is edged with stucco . The Saxon coat of arms can be seen on it.

Two bells were cast in Apolda in 1747 . The big bell was melted down for war purposes. The little bell still exists and is rung manually .
