Großziethen village church
The village church Großziethen is a stone church in Großziethen in the municipality of Schönefeld , district of Dahme-Spreewald , which stands in the middle of the old village green.
history
The church in Alt Großziethen 29 dates from the 13th century. In 1877 the field stone church got a neo-Gothic tower made of red bricks, which is assigned to Friedrich Stüler , a student of the Berlin master builder Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781–1841). During the First World War, two bronze bells were "brought to the bell assembly point in Britz to be melted down," says the chronicle. A smaller one remained, in 1919 three steel bells were added to the ringing.
After an Allied air raid in World War II , the images of Moses with the tablets of the Law and The Risen Christ in the windows were destroyed. They were replaced by simple colored glass panes.
Building
The late Gothic, vaulted nave with retracted choir and semicircular apse consists of field stones hewn on one side. The parapet of the three-sided gallery consists of painted coffers with floral and religious motifs. The Schuke organ with 7 1 ⁄ 2 registers from 1937/1938 is on the western gallery .
inventory
The furnishings essentially date from the years 1861 to 1877. The altarpiece consists of a carved late Gothic group of figures with Christ crucified and Mary Magdalene kneeling . The figures of Maria and Johannes were probably made as early as the second half of the 15th century, while the other two figures were made around 1520/1530. Two angels with a golden chalice are also worth seeing.
