The church

The Protestant village church Harpersdorf is located in the Harpersdorf district of the Kraftsdorf community in the Greiz district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Rüdersdorf-Kraftsdorf in the parish of Gera of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The church was built in 1817 and 1818, but was destroyed by American planes in a bombing raid in 1945 .

As early as 1946, the clean-up work began by many helpers who even came from the surrounding towns. The excavation work for the new church walls also began immediately. The new church was inaugurated in 1950 by the regional bishop Moritz Mitzenheim .

In 1990 the post-war roof of the nave had to be re-covered. The church tower got a gold-plated tower button with a weather vane . In 1998 and 1999 the church was fundamentally repaired.

The 50th anniversary celebrations followed in 2000. The regional bishop Roland Hoffmann held the festive service . In 2002 the exterior renovations were completed.

inner space

The church is simple and functional. It has an altar made of marble with profiled plate. The stained glass windows in the choir are covered with paintings. A wheel chandelier with twelve candles decorates the simple house. A special feature is the Madonna with Child Jesus on a painting from the Middle Ages . The ceiling is decorated with stencil painting.
