Ihlow village church

The Protestant village church Ihlow is a Gothic religious building in Ihlow in the Teltow-Fläming district in Brandenburg . It belongs to the parish Illmersdorf in the parish of Zossen-Fläming of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia .

history

Little is known about the building history of the field stone church . Experts put the date of its construction at the end of the 13th century, possibly around 1300. It is believed that the church was also affected by a fire in the village in 1875. This is indicated by the modified windows of the tower.

architecture

The building was built from field stones in a rectangular plan. The stones are layered in a comparatively irregular manner. On the north and south sides of the nave, three arched windows, of which the eastern one is shortened, let light into the church. There is a portal on the south side. At the choir there are two ogival windows that were installed in place of an originally existing group of three windows . A circular opening can be seen above it. The choir is built from irregularly hewn field stones right up to the gable . On the west side of the nave there is a late Gothic tower, which is only slightly narrower than the nave . This makes it look comparatively massive. In the upper area there are one on the long sides and two basket arch-shaped sound arcades in the neo-Romanesque style on the transverse sides . Above this, a tooth cut forms the transition to the eaves of the tower. The two six-sided spiers are bent and then rise steeply into the sky. They are each crowned by a ball and a weather vane. This design is unique in the district. A church leader of the church district tells of a legend according to which the devil is said to have ridden through the church and split the tower in the process. The gable roof is covered with a reddish beaver tail , the two towers with black slate . There is a chessboard piece at one corner of the structure .

Furnishing

In the interior there is a flat beamed ceiling and a baroque west gallery. The rest of the equipment was replaced in 1967 and is modern.

Two tombstones for Zacharias Mosen and his wife Eva Elisabeth have been placed in front of the building.
