Möglenz village church

The Protestant village church in Möglenz is a listed church building in the Bad Liebenwerda district of Möglenz in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg . Here the church can be found in the center of the village with an adjacent cemetery.

Building description and history

The previous building of the Möglenz village church fell victim to a devastating village fire in 1817. In addition to the church, the fire destroyed 40 houses and many barns in the village. The previous building of this church was also destroyed by fire in 1601.

The building that exists today is a brick hall with a core of late Gothic and plastered from the first quarter of the 19th century. In the years 1819-20 the church was rebuilt with the help of donations. It has a three-sided east end and buttresses. In the west is a square roof tower from 1894 with a bent pointed helmet . There is also a vestibule built in 1972.

The interior of the church is characterized by a horseshoe gallery. The furnishings include, among other things, a pulpit altar created in a classical form in 1820, a pastor's chair and a sandstone baptism . In addition, further is in the church one from in 1914 Liebenwerdaer organ building company Voigt created organ (op. 31). This was repaired in 2003 and has a pneumatic cone drawer , a manual and eight stops .

The church was initially parish in Liebenwerda, but was later mentioned as a branch church of Saxdorf . The Protestant church Möglenz now belongs to the parish area Bad Liebenwerda in the parish of Bad Liebenwerda the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Tombs and memorials

Fallen memorial

The church cemetery is immediately adjacent to the Möglenz church. Among other things, a memorial has been erected here, which commemorates the inhabitants of the place who died in the two world wars.

The memorial to the fallen consists of a stele on a two-tiered base. On the sides there are panels with the names of those who died in the First and Second World Wars . Another page bears a dedication. A total of 53 names are recorded on the memorial, 25 of which relate to the First World War.
