The Evangelical village church Saxdorf is a listed church building in the Saxdorf district of the small town of Uebigau-Wahrenbrück in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg .

The church, built in the 13th century, has been the focus of many cultural events for decades. The Saxdorfer Pfarrgarten , designed by the artist Hanspeter Bethke , was voted one of the most beautiful gardens in the Berlin-Brandenburg region by viewers of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) in 2013.

Building description and history

The Saxdorf Church is a late Romanesque hall building made of brick from the 13th century . A slightly drawn-in semicircular apse adjoins the east of the nave. In 1585 the church was destroyed and then rebuilt, shortened by about six meters. The renewed west side was made from lawn iron stone . In the west of the nave there is a boarded-up octagonal roof tower with a tail hood and lantern from 1765.

Restoration work took place in it in the 1970s and 80s . Frescoes on the north wall and remains of ornamental paintings in the apse were uncovered. In addition, the ogival windows in the apse have been reconstructed.

The church has been the focus of many cultural events for decades. The “Saxdorf Summer Concerts” have been taking place here regularly since 1974. Well-known artists such as Dirk Zöllner , Baby Sommer and Tom Quaas performed here. Johann Plietzsch gave the first concert of the series of events.

Saxdorf belongs to the church district Bad Liebenwerda . The parish of Saxdorf also looks after the neighboring community of Kauxdorf .

Equipment (selection)

The interior of the ship is flat. Here is a horseshoe gallery, the core of which was probably changed in the 16th century . The late Gothic frescoes on the north wall depict the Annunciation and the birth of Christ , with the baby Jesus being surrounded by a mandorla .

The furnishings include a late Gothic carved altar from the 16th century and made in an Obhausen workshop. In the central shrine of the altar, Mary can be seen between Saint Ursula and Saint Barbara , with four apostles in each of the wings . The painted backs of the wings show the Annunciation, the Visitation , the Nativity and the Adoration of the Magi . The wooden pulpit is from the 19th century . The late Romanesque sandstone baptism in the church was originally in the village church of Martinskirchen . There is also a pastor's portrait from 1622 in the church . The oil painting applied to wood shows Magister Johannes Cummer, who died in 1622. The clergyman, who was born in Dahlen in 1575 , was pastor in Saxdorf for 13 years.

In the church there is furthermore one in 1978 from the Bad Liebenwerdaer organ building company Voigt created organ . The Saxdorf organ has a mechanical slide box , a manual , four registers and an attached pedal. The instrument was completely overhauled in 2011.

  • Gravestone of the judge Hans Blumisch († 1728)
