The church in Schützberg

description

building

The hall of the church was built from bricks and partly from lawn iron stones. It has a square tower on the west side, which was built around 1700. This is slightly offset from the east-west axis towards the south. The tower has a tower attachment with a tail hood and lantern . At the same time as the church tower was erected, the entire structure was also redesigned in Baroque style. Of the three windows in the east wall of the church, only the middle one has been left in its original state. The windows on the south side are partially walled up or remodeled in baroque style . A baroque sundial is attached to the south-east corner of the church . This was restored in the 1990s.

Interior and equipment

The gallery of the church is designed in the shape of a horseshoe and dates from around 1700. The remains of early Gothic wall paintings in the eastern part date from the time the church was built. They show depictions of the life of Jesus as well as images of saints and prophets in three different zones . A sacrament niche with a lattice door is also located in the east wall. The goblet-shaped Mannerist baptism of the church was made of sandstone in 1611 . The cuppa baptism is hexagonal and was decorated with sayings.
