Ruin of the village church with information board

The village church of Schkortleben is a listed ruin of a church in the Schkortleben district of the city of Weißenfels in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments , the building is listed as a monument under registration number 094 86694 .

The first mention of the village church in Schkortleben comes from a church book from 1580. Due to its location in the often flooded Saale-Aue and the wars of the 16th and 17th centuries, the church is said to have been in serious disrepair as early as 1680. It is alleged that the church was supposed to have been a fortified church , but the late evidence of the church speaks against it. The church fell into disrepair over time and even makeshift repairs in the second half of the 20th century could not save the church from final ruin. In 1985 the onion cover of the tower had to be removed. After that, the decay progressed so quickly over the next 15 years that it was decided to clean up the rest. The clearing lasted from 2000 to 2003. On an information board by the remains you can see the former appearance of the church on historical photos.
