The village church in Wolkwitz , a district of the Borrentin municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is a historic church building. The church belongs to the Protestant parish in Kummerow .

The church is an almost rectangular hall church , which was built from field stones and bricks on a field stone base. The history of the church is largely in the dark and can only be traced on the basis of structural characteristics. The oldest parts of the church probably date from the 13th century, which is indicated by the mediaeval brick format of the bricks used. Inside, old paints from the early 15th century and around 1600 were found. The church was probably damaged in the Thirty Years' War and then rebuilt to its present size. The shifted axis of the structure is attributed to this "reconstruction by eye". In the 1980s the west gable of the building had to be renewed. A historical portal and the former gallery fell victim to the renovation . Another renovation took place from the year 2000.

The church's most important art treasure is the so-called Wolkwitzer Madonna , a wooden representation of Mary as the crowned Queen of Heaven with the baby Jesus in her arms. The originally painted figure dates from around 1250. Its origin is unknown, it was only found in a shrine under the altar in 1920 and later, after restoration in the Bode Museum in Berlin, it came to the permanent exhibition of the Greifswald Marienkirche.

In the shrine of the late Gothic carved altar, a crucifixion scene is depicted, which is flanked by eight figures of saints in the altar wings. The top and the predella of the altar were redesigned during the Baroque period . Together with the other furnishings, the altar was also painted over with a wooden look in 1850. The back of the altar wing still has remains of the original painting with depictions of saints.

The pulpit and patron s box date from the late Renaissance period , were probably made around 1600 at the same time as the church was painted at that time and later redesigned during the Baroque period. The five limestone tombstones in the church also date from around 1600.

The historic bell hung in a free-standing wooden belfry near the church was cast by Jakob Schultz in 1670.
