The Dorian Bay ( French Anse Dorian ) is a bay on the northwest coast of Wiencke Island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 800 m east-northeast of Damoy Point .
They were discovered by participants in the Fourth French Antarctic Expedition (1903-1905) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot . Charcot named it after his friend and distantly related French politician Paul François Marc Antoine Ménard-Dorian (1846-1907), a member of the Chambre des députés . After scientists from the British Discovery Investigations had converted the French name into English after surveying the bay between 1927 and 1928, it was officially recognized by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in 1951 and by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1953 .
