Doris Merrick (* 6. June 1919 in Chicago , Illinois as Doris Simpson , † the thirtieth November 2019 in Yuma , Arizona ) was an American actress and a model .

Life

Doris Merrick was born in 1919 as one of ten children of Joseph and Nellie Simpson under the name Doris Simpson in Chicago. She attended Hyde Park High School there before starting her career as a model and singer. In December 1941, she was from Warner Bros. contracted. She got her first film role a year later in Girl Trouble . Around the same time, she changed her name to Doris Merrick.

In 1943 Merrick played a minor supporting role as a nurse in Ernst Lubitsch's A Heavenly Sinner . Her best-known roles included Vivian in the 1945 film drama The Love of Our Life and her appearance alongside Laurel and Hardy in The Big Bang . During her acting career, Merrick has starred in over twenty films and television series, including several in the female lead. Among other things, she was seen in 1952 as Sandra in the science fiction film Island of the Untouched Women , which later received the reputation of a trash film . In 1955 she made her last film, Interrupted Melody , before she retired into private life.

Merrick has been married three times. From 1936 to the divorce in 1944 with the boxer Max Marik, from whom she derived her stage name Merrick . The couple had a daughter together. The second marriage to the farmer John Meagher Knoll lasted from 1946 until the divorce in 1962. Merrick became a mother four times. Her third marriage to lawyer Matthew Lawton Hatfield lasted from 1964 until his death in 1986. Doris Merrick lived at Rancho Mirage for a long time and eventually moved to Yuma , where she lived in an old people's facility near her two daughters. She celebrated her 100th birthday at the beginning of June 2019 and died almost six months later.
