Doris Metaxa

Doris Metaxa (born June 12, 1911 in France, † September 7, 2007 ) was a French tennis player .

Life

Her parents had emigrated from Kefalonia to Marseille, where Doris Metaxa was born.

In 1932 she won the women's doubles at Wimbledon together with the Belgian Josane Sigart against the Americans Elizabeth Ryan and Helen Jacobs .

A fortnight after her success she married the English rugby player, journalist and author Peter Dunsmore Howard (1908–1965), with whom she had three children.

Further successes of the tennis player were the finals in the women's doubles in 1931 and 1935 and in the mixed doubles in 1934 at Wimbledon as well as two doubles titles in English tournaments in 1934.
