Dorndorf is first mentioned in a document in 1388. Three kilometers north-northeast of the village, moats and section walls of two castles have been preserved. The place may have belonged to the county of Kirchberg in older times , was the Montfort fiefdom of the Ginger in 1495 and the Lyns in 1511, who in 1536 sold the Burgstall and village, including the lower court and church patronage, to the Fuggers . In 1657 the place came to the Counts of Lodron , 1663 to the Fuggers and soon again to the Lodron, in 1674 to the Barons von Racknitz and from these in 1711 to the Wiblingen Monastery . The country's government and the Lower Court stood since the monastery to which high jurisdiction Count Fugger to Kirchberg.
In 1806 Dorndorf came to the Kingdom of Württemberg , where the place was subordinated to the Oberamt Wiblingen .
On January 1, 1971, Dorndorf was incorporated into Illerrieden.
