Life

Bridges was founded in 1915 in Worcester as Dorothy Louise Simpson born. The family moved to Los Angeles when she was two years old. There she attended the University of California , where she met her future husband Lloyd Bridges while rehearsing for a play. The two married in New York City in 1938 , where the family lived for a few years, where she and her husband learned acting from Michael Chekhov . In the early 1940s, however, the Bridges moved back to the West Coast when Lloyd Bridges signed a deal with Columbia Pictures .

Dorothy Bridges began her film career at the age of six in 1921 with the melodrama Finders Keepers , in which she played the girl Olivia Sutterlee. In the American Film Institute's catalog , her role is listed among the five main roles in the film. After her marriage to Lloyd Bridges, Dorothy Bridges devoted herself mainly to the upbringing of the children and took over her duties as wife and mother. She also gave her children acting lessons as they worked out their roles. In the following years she occasionally returned to the canvas. She then mainly starred in films in which other family members participate.

Bridges had episode roles in the television series Underwater Adventure (1968) and Disney Land (1986). In the melodrama Second Luck (1989) she had a supporting role on the side of her son Jeff Bridges; she also played his mother in the film. In the television crime thriller The Sins of a Father (1994) she played alongside her husband Lloyd Bridges and her son Beau Bridges in the film, their wife and mother.
