The Doubtful River is a small river in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales .

It rises on the eastern slopes of Mount Jagungal in the Snowy Mountains . Its sources are only a few hundred meters away from those of the Geehi River .

In contrast to the Geehi River, which flows south to the Swampy Plain River , a tributary of the Murray River , the Doubtful River turns its course to the north and flows after around 15 kilometers into the Tumut River , a tributary of the Murrumbidgee River .

Without exception, the Doubtful River runs through unpopulated, high-alpine areas.
