Douglas Scott "Doug" Bateman (born January 19, 1954 in Somerville , New Jersey ) is a former American luge athlete .
Bateman competed in doubles with Ronald Rossi . At the “Grand Prix” in Igls they came in sixth and thus achieved the best result of a US two-seater to date. In the same year they also won the North American Championships. In 1984 Bateman and Rossi qualified for the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo . There they took ninth place.
Bateman grew up in Raritan , New Jersey and attended high school there . He then attended Washington & Jefferson College in Washington , Pennsylvania . In 1977 he obtained a degree in economics . After his active career, Bateman was employed by the US Luge Federation, where he was president from 1998 to 2002 and 2006 to 2014.
Bateman's brother Ray Bateman, Jr. was also a luge competitor.
