Douglas "Doug" Haig McAvoy (born November 29, 1918 in Kilmarnock , † 1988 ) was a Scottish football player . In his active career as a player he reached the final of the Scottish Cup with FC Kilmarnock in 1938 .

Career

Doug McAvoy was born in Kilmarnock, about 25 miles southwest of Glasgow , in 1918 . McAvoy played in his youth in Cumnock, not far from his hometown. In 1936 he came to FC Kilmarnock . In the 1936/37 season he was in the men's area for the first time. In 1938 he reached the final of the Scottish Cup with the Killies which was lost to FC East Fife in the replay finals . In the first final game, McAvoy had scored a goal.

With Kilmarnock he played in Division One until 1947 . After the club at the end of season 1946/47 in the Division Two was staying, McAvoy was still half a year for the club on the ball. After 94 league games and 22 goals the 29 year old left the club in December 1947.

The reigning English champions Liverpool FC signed him for £ 7,000 . He made his debut against Stoke City on January 3, 1948 at Anfield . McAvoy only played one more game for Liverpool in the First Division against Chelsea in October 1948.

In 1949 he returned to Scotland and played for Queen of the South .
