Johann Benckiser

Johann Adam Benckiser ( December 30, 1782 - May 7, 1851 ) was a German chemist . Besides Isaac Reckitt, Benckiser is considered to be the founder of the chemical company Reckitt Benckiser , which is now part of the FTSE 100 Index .

Benckiser acquired a salmiak works in Pforzheim in 1823. The company originally produced hydrochloric acid and ammonium chloride . In 1828, Benckiser hired the young chemist Karl Ludwig Reimann . This married his daughter. This gave rise to the Reimann family , which is one of the richest families in Germany today.
