Douglas Campbell "Dougie" Thomson (born March 24, 1951 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish musician. He is known as the former bass guitarist for the rock band Supertramp .

Career

Thomson's career began in August 1969 when he joined the Glasgow band The Beings . Then in September 1971 he joined The Alan Bown Set . There he met John Helliwell , the later Supertramp saxophonist. In February 1972 Thomson applied for Supertramp and temporarily played in several appearances. In 1973 he stayed with Supertramp permanently and also helped with management, he supported Dave Margereson. He also managed to persuade John Helliwell to join the band.

Thomson played on all of the most famous Supertramp albums: Crime of the Century , Crisis? What Crisis? , Even in the Quietest Moments , Breakfast in America , Paris , “… famous last words…” , Brother Where You Bound and Free as a Bird .

Supertramp was dissolved in 1988, there was reunification in 1997, but Thomson no longer took part, he was replaced by Cliff Hugo . He works in JBM management, managing bands such as New Sense , Disturbed , The Fags and Dark New Day .

Thomson is an active seaman and owns several yachts. He has four children: Laura, James, Kyle and Emma. Kyle plays for an elite soccer club in the USA, Sockers FC .
