Douglas Appling , also known under his stage name Emancipator (born May 27, 1987 in New York City ), is an American music producer .

Life

Appling grew up in the state of Virginia before moving to Portland , Oregon , where he still lives today. He first studied psychology in Williamsburg before turning to music .

He released his first album Soon it will be Cold Enough in 2006 on the Hyde Out Records label . Appling finally had its first stage appearance in 2009, which was followed by a tour of North America and East Asia. He released his second album Safe in the Steep Cliffs in 2010 on his own label Loci Records . After a remix release in 2011 and the single Elephant Survival , his third album Dusk to Dawn followed in 2013 .

Apple's mostly electronic music is based on the genre of trip-hop , downbeat and ambient . He also plays the violin , piano and guitar .
