Douglas R. Nowicki OSB (born May 8, 1945 in Everson , Pennsylvania ) is a Benedictine Archabbot emeritus of the Archabbey of St. Vincent .

Life

He is one of four children born to the Sylvester and Evelyn Nowicki. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Saint Vincent College in 1968 , a Master of Divinity from Saint Vincent Seminary in 1971, and his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tennessee in 1977 . He entered the order of the Benedictines, where he made his profession on July 11, 1966 in the hands of his abbot Rembert Weakland . He received in the Monastery Basilica by Bishop on May 21, 1972 William Graham Connare the priesthood . From 1986 to 1991 he was a pastor in Pittsburgh . He was elected 11th Archabbot of St. Vincent on January 8, 1991. On March 1, 1991, the benediction was held by Bishop Anthony Gerard Bosco , who gave him the pontificals . He is also the Chancellor of Saint Vincent College and Saint Vincent Seminary in Latrobe . In 1999 he received an honorary doctorate from Fu-Jen Catholic University . On May 11, 2010 Nowicki was re-elected as abbot. On May 8, 2020, at the age of 75, he retired according to the statutes of the Congregation. On June 23, 2020, Father Martin de Porres Bartel was elected by the electoral chapter of the monastery to succeed him in the office of archabbot.
