Download is a Canadian music group that started as a side project of Skinny Puppy , but is now an independent band. The group mainly makes instrumental electronic music that can be assigned to post-industrial , ambient and intelligent dance music .

Band history

While cEvin Key and Ohil Western, together with Dwayne Goettel, were working on the final skinny-puppy album The Process for a long time , they got into stress. To make things easier , they jammed together and brought in befriended musicians like Anthony Valcic, Ken Marshall, Philth and Mark Spybey from Dead Voices on Air . A short time later, Goettel died of a heroin overdose . The two remaining Skinny Puppy members finished The Process and then broke up the band. The side project, however, took on ever larger forms and produced the first album Furnace , which was released on the band's own label SubConscious Records (distributed by Cleopatra Records ).

In 1996 two EPs followed, one with remixes from the debut album and one as a first release via Nettwerk Records. In 1996 the second album The Eyes of Stanley Pain was released . The band then released the soundtrack for the Charles Manson film The Manson Family (working title and soundtrack title: Charlie's Family ) by Jim Van Bebber . III and 2000 Effector followed in October 1997 .

Download continued to exist even after Skinny Puppy's reunion in 2002. In 2007 the album Fixer was released via Subconscious Communications and in 2011 Helicopter / Wookiewall . Her last work, LingAM , was published in 2013 .

style

Furnace , the first album released after the collapse of Skinny Puppy, was much more electronic than the main work of the two remaining members at the time. The hard industrial sound was reminiscent of a mixture of Skinny Puppy, Aphex Twin and the Italian band Goblin and My Bloody Valentine . The album also featured Genesis P-Orridge as a singer. Also on the second album P-Orridge worked as a guest singer. The album contains some danceable songs and is reminiscent of early industrial bands like Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV . It's also by far the most accessible album in the band's back catalog. It should also be the last album with vocals, from the release of the soundtrack to The Manson Family , Download became an instrumental band that is mainly active in ambient and experimental dance music.
