Downsview Park is an intermodal transportation hub in Toronto . It is named after the park of the same name and is located on the south side of Sheppard Avenue West, near Downsview Airport . Here you can change between the Yonge University Line of the Toronto Subway and the Toronto – Barrie railway line .

station

Downsview Park is the Toronto metropolitan area's first intermodal transportation facility for the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) subway and GO Transit subway trains . In all interchange hubs built earlier, both transport companies each have their own buildings, some of which are far apart. The central platform of the subway is underground in an east-west direction, parallel to Sheppard Avenue West. The single-track suburban railway stops above ground on a side platform facing south to north. Downsview Park is in a sparsely populated area; However, the TTC assumes that new residential and business districts will emerge around the station in the next few years.

On both sides of the suburban railway there are two entrance pavilions designed by Aedas , which are connected to one another by a distribution level. The distinctive postmodern style pavilions are made of glass, stone and aluminum; green roofs stretch over it . Panya Clark Espinal was responsible for the interior design. Her work Spin extends over walls, ceilings and floors and creates the visual impression of three strong brushstrokes that float freely in space.

history

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the extension of the Yonge University Line took place on November 27, 2009. The actual tunnel boring work began in June 2011. During the planning and early construction phase, the station was called Sheppard West , but this name was transferred to the Downsview station, which has existed since 1996 and which has been called Sheppard West since May 7, 2017 . The Downsview Park subway station opened on December 17, 2017, and the station followed on December 30 of the same year.
