The Dr. Pfleger Arzneimittel GmbH (for short: Dr. Pfleger ; until 2018 Dr. R. Pfleger Chemische Fabrik GmbH ) is a medium-sized German pharmaceutical company founded by Robert Pfleger in Bamberg in 1945 . Dr Pfleger produces and markets around 60 finished medicinal products and medical products, especially in the areas of urology and dermatology, as well as OTC medicinal products and personal care products.

After the death of the company founder and owner Robert Pfleger, all shares in the company were transferred in full to the Doktor Robert Pfleger Foundation in 1974 . This supports medical research and charitable institutions.

Research and Development

In 1968 the company developed the antispasmodic trospium chloride ( Spasmex ). Other products from Dr. Nurses are a pain reliever and fever reliever based on acetylsalicylic acid ( Godamed ), which is also used to inhibit platelet aggregation , the nystatin antimycotic Biofanal and the acne drug Nadixa .

The pain reliever Neuralgin (combined preparation with acetylsalicylic acid, caffeine and paracetamol , introduced in 1952) and the cold preparation with primrose root extract Ipalat (introduced in 1957) have achieved a high level of awareness among over-the-counter products .

Doctor Robert Pfleger Foundation

In a will of July 19, 1970, Robert Pfleger determined that his pharmaceutical company and all of his other assets should be transferred to a foundation. The foundation was established on September 24, 1974 in accordance with the Bavarian Foundation Act. The Dr. Pfleger GmbH is now 100% owned by the Doktor Robert Pfleger Foundation.

The foundation is a non-profit, privately owned foundation. According to the statutes, all foundation income serves exclusively

  • Funding medical research projects at universities, scientific institutions and health care institutions,
  • Fulfillment of charitable purposes, especially in the field of youth and elderly care as well as
  • Awarding of the Robert Pfleger Research Prize (with an amount of up to 100,000 euros, it is one of the most highly endowed prizes in the German medical sector).
