Drago Gajo

Drago Gajo (* 1950 in Ljubljana as Dragan Gajić ) is a Slovenian jazz musician ( drums ).

Gajo's interest in jazz was sparked in 1960 by a concert by Louis Armstrong . By the appearance of Elvin Jones in the film Zachariah his interest grew on drums games. He first played in the blues rock band of Tomaž Domicelj, with whom the first recordings were made in 1974 at the Pop Festival Ljubljana '74 . In 1978 he moved to Los Angeles , where drummer Billy Moore taught him until 1982. Back in Europe he belonged to Dejan Pečenko's trio (with Peter Herbert ), with whom he recorded two albums. He also played in Tone Janša's band , where he also met Renato Chicco. In addition, he led his own quartet and his big band. Gajo toured internationally and also performed with Sheila Jordan , Dusko Goykovich and Peter Mihelich . He can also be heard on albums by Woody Shaw , Tomaž Domicelj and Dado Topić .

Together with his wife and children, he founded the Gajo jazz club in his hometown in 1994 , which is still in existence today. There he performs regularly with his jazz club Gajo Quartet .
