Dejan Pečenko

Dejan Pečenko (born December 13, 1958 in Maribor ) is a Slovenian jazz musician (piano).

Live and act

Pečenko studied jazz piano between 1979 and 1985 at the Graz University of Music. In 1983 he recorded with Brüning from Altens Sunrise Orchestra . From 1985 to 1989 he performed as a freelance musician on numerous tours with jazz musicians such as Tony Scott , Bumi Fian or Tone Janša and took part in the Moers Festival , the Leverkusener Jazztage and JazzAscona . In 1986 he founded his own trio (with Peter Herbert and Drago Gajo ), with whom he released a first album in the same year, followed by the album Persepolis in 1988 . He also released the two solo albums Piano Pianissimo (1995) and Toy Museum (1998). He is also part of the Old Stoariegler Dixielandband and Manfred Josel's trio . According to the Austrian Music Lexicon , he is "one of the stylistically comprehensive jazz pianists and keyboardists whose music is based on styles such as swing , fusion , Latin music and hip hop ."

Since 1989 he has been a professor at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz and is still active as a professor at the Anton Bruckner Private University that emerged from it. In 1992 he was co-founder of the jazz department of the Music Conservatory in Ljubljana. Between 1995 and 2003 he also taught piano practice at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz . Since 2013 he has also been a lecturer at the Maribor Conservatory.
