Karl Fian

Karl "Bumi" Fian (born June 24, 1960 in Perchtoldsdorf ; † January 5, 2006 in Vienna ) was an Austrian jazz and rock trumpeter.

Life

From 1974 to 1979 Bumi Fian studied at the Vienna Conservatory with Robert Politzer .

Fian was an exceptional talent on the trumpet and moved with his music beyond the boundaries between rock, jazz and world music. He was a long-time member of the Vienna Art Orchestra (from 1979 to 2002), where his powerful playing could develop perfectly. In recent years he has appeared with the “ Clemens Salesny / Bumi Fian Quintet”.

Fian also played with various representatives of Austropop , including Wolfgang Ambros , Georg Danzer , Stefanie Werger , Boris Bukowski and Rainhard Fendrich . He was a member of the first Falco formation . Also Harald Juhnke and Peter Alexander engaged him as a musician. Fian played in the orchestra of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien in the musical productions Cats , Das Phantom der Oper and Elisabeth .

Internationally, he worked alongside others with Carla Bley and Kenny Wheeler .

Bumi Fian died of internal bleeding in the Rudolfstiftung Hospital in Vienna . He was buried in the Liesing cemetery (group 93, row 8, number 11).
