Tone Janša

Anton "Tone" Janša (born May 5, 1943 in Ormož ) is a Slovenian jazz musician ( saxophone , flute , composition ) and music teacher.

Career

Janša completed his instrumental studies at the Graz University of Music in 1975 with a diploma in classical and jazz saxophone. After further studies at Berklee College of Music in the USA, he initially returned to Yugoslavia.

During his studies he founded his own quartet in 1972, initially with André Jeanquartier , Ewald Oberleitner and John Preininger . In 1974 he became a member of the RTV Ljubljana Big Band , in which he was active until 1984 and was involved in numerous productions. With his band he was on numerous tours through Europe, but also in India and the former Soviet Union. Since 1988 he has been a lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. He can also be heard on recordings and productions with Aladár Pege , Gustav Brom , Mladi Levi and the Swing & Musical Orchestra Graz .
