André Jeanquartier

André Jeanquartier (* 1941 in Le Locle , Switzerland ) is a Swiss jazz pianist .

Career

After graduating from school, Jeanquartier worked as a primary school teacher in Neuchâtel (Switzerland). He also worked as a musician and traveled to Paris , Berlin , Stockholm and other European capitals. He then worked as a French teacher in Hanover .

In 1970 he began studying composition in Graz with Waldemar Bloch . He graduated with distinction. In the meantime and in the following years he took part as a pianist in numerous jazz festivals in Spain, Poland, Hungary, Yugoslavia, India and other countries. He received his first prize at the San Sebastian Jazz Festival . He also won the Graz City Music Promotion Prize.

Since 1983 he has been a teacher at the Musikhochschule Graz ( University of Music and Performing Arts Graz ) for the subjects improvisation , piano practice and repertoire ensemble for vocalists and has been retired since 2007.

He has worked on around 15 LPs and CDs with Tone Janša , Art Farmer , Bob Brookmeyer , Toots Thielemans and other well-known jazz musicians.

Jeanquartier has been married since 1975 and has three children. Since 2000 he has been involved in watercolor painting , but also pastels and graphics .
