Andy Lumpp

Andy Lumpp (born April 1, 1957 in Dormagen ) is a German modern jazz pianist .

Lumpp first learned the piano as a child, and at the age of 10 he also began to play classical guitar. At the age of seventeen he decided to play the piano and studied from 1975 at the Cologne University of Music . He also took private lessons from Richie Beirach . In 1975 he founded the Cologne Jazz Trio with Rainer Linke and Frank Köllges . Like Linke, he then switched to Uli Beckerhoff's group “Riot”, where he stayed until 1980. He then played with the John Thomas Lifeforce, the quartet of Wolfgang Engstfeld and Klaus Weiss and the groups of Reinhard Glöder and Klaus Lenz . He also gave solo concerts (“17-6-82 Cologne”, 1982). From 1982 to 1986 he accompanied the singer Monika Linges and formed a trio with Hugo Read and Michael Küttner , who also toured West Africa on behalf of the Goethe Institute . He later founded the group "Out of Darkness". He also worked with the hr-jazz ensemble , Kenny Wheeler , Jon Christensen , Ack van Rooyen and Markus Stockhausen . In 1994 he presented a second solo album (“Dreamin 'Man”), which was followed in 2005 by “Beyond Nirvana”. He occasionally expanded his trio with Heinrich Chastca and Stefan Hölker to include trumpeter Andy Przybielski (“Music From Planet Earth”, 2000, “Musica ex spiritu sanctu”, 2003). In 2005 he performed with Przybielski's group at the Leipzig Jazz Days . He also worked in a duo with Adelhard Roidinger ( Parusia 2019).

Lumpp, who lives in Delhoven , was also an arranger and lecturer at the University of Duisburg and at the State University of Music Westphalia-Lippe. Dortmund department active.
