The former dragoon barracks at Hindenburgstrasse 36 is a building in Darmstadt .
History and description
The former dragoon barracks was built between 1825 and 1827 according to plans by the architect Franz Heger . The barracks is the remainder of a series of barracks buildings planned by Heger in Darmstadt. Part of the two-story building wing at the rear has been preserved .
Typical details of the old building wing are:
- the visible quarry stone masonry of the barracks building was originally plastered ; but was soon exposed again
- the facade cut to Hindenburgstraße out shows four coupled arched windows next three simple windows
- the walls are made of sandstone
- both storeys are shared by a cornice
The roof zone of the dragoon barracks was disfigured.
Monument protection
The former dragoon barracks is a typical example of the construction of barracks in Darmstadt in the early 19th century . For architectural and city history reasons, the barracks building is a cultural monument .
