The Drahtwerk northern area is about 23 ha large industrial area in St. Ingbert on a disused part surface of the wire plant in St. Ingbert GmbH, a subsidiary of Saarstahl AG , which in 2004 his new provision has been applied. Northwest of the city center, directly on the "Inner Ring", one of the largest and most modern commercial areas in Saarland is currently being built on the site of the former "Drahtwerk Nord" steelworks. The project is financed by the city of St. Ingbert , the Saarland (with a grant of 2.7 million euros from the “Aktion Wasserzeichen” funding program) and the European Union . The aim is the settlement of innovative service companies and job-intensive commercial enterprises.
The ecological aspects of such a large area are particularly taken into account: Gehnbach and Rischbach were unbundled and disclosed and a new retention basin was built. End of 2007 was a heat network through a 2.0- megawatt - biomass - wood chips power station is operated to the grid. The nearby town hall and the town hall are also connected to it. A total of 2,000 meters of pipeline was laid for this. 800,000 euros of the 2.7 million total volume came from the state's “Future Energy Program Plus” funding. With these efforts, St. Ingbert's claim as part of the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve is underlined.
