Dreescher Markt street and square is located in Schwerin , in the center of the Großer Dreesch district . The street leads in an east-west direction from Bernhard-Schwentner-Straße to Friedrich-Engels-Straße and Von-Stauffenberg-Straße.

Back streets

The side and connecting streets were named Bernhard-Schwentner- Strasse after the Catholic priest and Nazi victim (executed 1891-1944), Friedrich-Engels- Strasse after the philosopher, social theorist, historian, journalist and communist revolutionary (1820-1895) and Von -Stauffenberg-Strasse named after the colonel and active resister Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg (1907–1944, shot).

Surname

The street and square were named after the Großer Dreesch district. Dreesch comes from an old field name Driesche and referred to a dormant arable land that was used as pasture, wasteland or wild land.

From around 1974 to around 1991 it was called the Street of German-Soviet Friendship .

For the developing industrial area in Schwerin-Süd, many apartments had to be built from 1971 onwards. a. originated in the Großer Dreesch (named after a field name). After 1991, the Großer Dreesch became the three districts of Großer Dreesch (with around 8,400 inhabitants), Neu Zippendorf and Mueßer Holz . A square with residential and commercial buildings was built in the center after 1971 and a swimming pool in 1981, which was renovated in 2015. From the 1995s onwards, the living environment and space were improved through the state program Urban Redevelopment East with funds from the federal, state and city authorities.

The Große Dreesch is accessible by the tram lines 1 and 2 (to the center) as well as 3 and 4 (to the industrial area Schwerin-Süd) and the bus lines 6 and 9 (on the square) as well as 13, 16 and 19 of Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH (NVS) .
