The Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Schwerin is in the area of West Mecklenburg active and Schwerin savings bank based in Schwerin in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern .

It is the third largest savings bank in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern after the Sparkasse Vorpommern and the OstseeSparkasse Rostock . With around 40 trainees, the Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Schwerin is one of the largest trainers in West Mecklenburg.

history

On the initiative of Justice Council Wilhelm von Schack , the first financial institute was founded in Schwerin in 1821, the savings institution as an association with a privilege of the Grand Duchy ; Grand Duke Friedrich Franz I signed the first statute . It served the purpose of giving the less well-off the opportunity to “use their savings advantageously”. The cash register was housed in the building of the Hofmarschallamt ( Schlossstrasse ), but it soon became too small. From 1835 to 1857 the institution was operated in the old town hall .

In 1857 the Schwerin savings institution was built on what was then Königstrasse (from 1945 on Puschkinstrasse ). Between 1936 and 1938 the new savings bank building was built on Marienplatz in Schwerin . In 1952 the Sparkasse lost its independence. In 1983 there were eight branches in addition to the main office of the Stadt- und Kreissparkasse Schwerin on Marienplatz. It became independent again in 1990 as Sparkasse Schwerin , supported by the city of Schwerin under public law.

The Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Schwerin was created in 2007 after the merger of the Sparkasse Schwerin and the Kreissparkasse Ludwigslust . These two predecessor institutes each came into being in 1952 as part of the reorganization of the savings banks in the GDR .

carrier

The Sparkasse is sponsored by the Sparkassenzweckverband for the Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Schwerin . The state capital Schwerin and the district Ludwigslust-Parchim are members of the association .
