Rico Badenschier

Rico Badenschier (born July 18, 1978 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a German doctor and politician ( SPD ). He has been Lord Mayor of the city of Schwerin since November 1, 2016 .

Life

Badenschier passed his Abitur in 1997 at the Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium in Chemnitz. After his community service he studied human medicine from 1999 to 2002 at the Philipps University of Marburg and from 2002 to 2005 at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . He passed his state examination in April 2005. During his studies in Marburg , he was a collegiate at the Hessian Scholarship Institute from 1999 to 2001 and a member of the 37th student parliament from 2001 to 2002 .

After passing a state examination, Badenschier worked in radiology at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel from 2005 to 2006 . From 2006 to 2007 he worked at the Itzehoe Clinic ( neurology ). Badenschier has been employed by the Helios Kliniken Schwerin (radiology and neuroradiology ) in Schwerin since 2008 . Most recently as a senior physician in neuroradiology. He was a member of the works council from 2010 to 2014. With the assumption of the office of the mayor of Schwerin , his professional activity in the Helios clinics ended.

politics

Badenschier has been a member of the SPD since 2009. He was elected to the state board of the Working Group of Social Democrats in Health Care in 2011. From the 2014 local elections to November 2016, he was a member of the Schwerin city council, where he was spokesperson for building, transport and regulatory policy for the SPD city council group. In addition, he was a member of the supervisory board of Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH .

In July 2015, Badenschier was nominated by the SPD as a candidate for the mayoral election in 2016. In the first ballot on September 4, 2016, he reached the runoff election with 18.9%, which he won with 60.1% against the incumbent Angelika Gramkow ( Die Linke ). The mayor's term of office began on November 1, 2016.
