Gustav Schwantz

Gustav Schwantz (born September 30, 1888 in Repplin , district of Pyritz , † January 9, 1964 in Schwerin ) was an SED functionary and local politician. From 1953 to 1961 he was Lord Mayor of Schwerin.

Life

The son of a farm laborer was appointed elementary school teacher in 1908 after attending elementary school and a preparation institute . In 1934 he was sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment “for violating the cooperative law”, after which he was a leaseholder of a farm.

Gustav Schwantz joined the SPD after the Second World War and became mayor of Demmin . In February 1946 he became district administrator of the Demmin district and in the same year a member of the SED. In 1950/51 he was district administrator of the Pasewalk-Ueckermünde district and from 1951 to 1953 chairman of the council of the Schwerin-Land district . From October 1953 to September 1961 he was - as the successor to Johanna Blecha - Lord Mayor of Schwerin and then retired at the age of 73. Schwantz was also a member of the SED district leadership in Schwerin. From 1961 he was honorary chairman of the district committee of the National Front in Schwerin and chairman of the district peace council.
