Otto Weltzien (politician)

Otto Ludwig Hans Weltzien (born April 14, 1859 in Schwerin ; † July 5, 1942 there ) was a German lawyer and mayor of Schwerin.

Life

Otto Weltzien was born in Schwerin in 1859 as the son of Hofrat Christian Heinrich Julius Weltzien. His brother was the mathematician and educator Carl Heinrich Julius Weltzien. After attending grammar school in Schwerin, Weltzien completed a law degree ; he attended the universities of Heidelberg , Leipzig and Berlin and was matriculated at the University of Rostock .

From 1887 to 1918 Weltzien was councilor in Schwerin. After he was second mayor in 1918, he held the office of mayor of Schwerin from 1919 to June 30, 1926 . He was committed to the Schwerin-Görries airfield and endeavored to develop Schwerin into a tourist city .

Otto Weltzien was a member of the Kyffhäuserbund . He was made an honorary citizen of the city of Schwerin. Otto-Weltzien-Straße in Görries is named after him.
